Seattle University women's soccer player Lauren Munechika (Sammamish, Wash.) was selected to the CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District Third Team, University Division District VIII. The junior midfielder, who boasts a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average, earned the honor for the first time in her career.

"I am very proud of Lauren for being recognized for her accomplishments," said head coach Julie Woodward. "She is an exceptional individual, who personifies what it means to be a student-athlete."

Munechika has excelled both academically and athletically at Seattle U. As a nursing major, one of the most difficult programs of study at SU, she has maintained her perfect grade point average over the past two years and been named to the President's List six times.

This season she has seen action in 13 games, starting five at central midfield. A leader both on and off the field, she has been an important part in SU earning 10 wins, including five shutouts this season.

Munechika and the Redhawks, who are currently No. 10 in the NSCAA West Regional Poll, will close out the 2010 campaign this weekend hosting Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, Nov. 6, in a 1 p.m. match.
