Don Rasmussen, head coach of the Seattle University men's golf team, has announced that Alex Dow of Sacramento, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and join the golf program beginning in the 2011-12 academic year.

Dow, a four-year player for Kevin Fleming at Jesuit High School, was the 2010 club champion at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville, Calif. He was also the 2010-11 scholarship winner at North Ridge Country Club, earning a year of free golf membership based on his high grade point average and low USGA handicap index.

He finished in the top ten in the 2010 points standings for the First Tee of Greater Sacramento, winning two tournaments and finishing in the top five in three other tournaments. Dow received offers from schools such as Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University before deciding to sign with Seattle University.

"Alex is a great addition to the Seattle U golf family. He had offers from several schools as well as interest from many others that were hoping to sign him in the spring signing period," Rasmussen said. "Alex has really come on strong this past year, and what excites me the most is that his best golf is still in front of him. I know that he will fit into our program well, joining the great players we presently have and enhancing what they have already started."

The son of Michael and Karen Dow, he will join an experienced group of golfers, with 10 of the 13 golfers on this year's squad eligible to return next year.

The Seattle University men's golf team will begin the spring season Feb. 14-15 at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah University in St. George, Utah. The season will be capped with the team's participation in the America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championships May 2-4 at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
