This is my fifth year of college athletics.  No punishment or drills really scare me anymore because I’ve been through them all and I lived to tell the tale.

That is, except for one drill.

The Shredder.

No, not the masked villain from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I wish), but a drill coined and invented by our very own Coach Jamie Angeli.  When Coach first introduced it to us last year, he said it was also known as “Vomit,” or “Oh my gosh, I want to quit.”  He claims the name “Shredder” refers to the drill’s “destructive nature” if you aren’t both mentally and physically prepared.

“We don’t call it ‘The Shredder’ because it’s a day at Disneyland.  This is a demanding drill that emphasizes defensive stance and footwork, ballhandling, shooting, communication and conditioning.  We love it!” said Coach Angeli.

The drill was introduced for the newcomers the second week of practice.  The coaches went easy on us and only had us to do it once.

“The Shredder is an exhausting drill that the coaches love and we dread,” said junior point guard Elle Kerfoot.

Coach Angeli and I decided to make a video of me doing the Shredder to show some of the hard work the Seattle U women’s basketball team puts in!

Thanks to Coach Angeli for filming and editing of this video!

Go Redhawks!!
