Senior setter Jamie Mellies (Henderson, Nev.) added another honor to her distinguished college career, as she earned ESPN Second Team Academic All-District VIII honors, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mellies is once again leading the Seattle University volleyball team in assists with 1,036 assists, averaging 10.46 assists per set, tops among all independent schools. In 99 sets played, she has accumulated 33 kills, 20 service aces, 187 defensive digs, and 46 total blocks.

In the team's last match at Stetson, she became the school's all-time assist leader, now with 3,911 career assists. Mellies is also seventh all-time in career digs with 895 and fifth in total blocks for a career with 244. This season, she earned 58 assists in Seattle U's five-set victory at Gonzaga on Sept. 18.

In the classroom, Mellies has earned a 3.92 grade point average while majoring in civil engineering. She was one of 30 preseason candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for volleyball. Last season Mellies picked up both First Team All-Independent and Academic All-Independent honors as she had the highest grade point average among all the academic honorees.

Mellies will lead Seattle University into back-to-back matches at Cal State Bakersfield Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6, with both contests beginning at 6 p.m. The Redhawks will host the Independent Tournament Nov. 19-20, welcoming Cal State Bakersfield and North Carolina Central to the Connolly Center.
