Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) started strong with a top-20 performance to lead the Seattle University women's golf team to finish Monday's first round of the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational in 14th place at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
Cook earned four birdies during her round of 77 (+4) to finish the first day in a tie for 13th place, just five strokes behind individual leader Amelia Ek of UC Riverside. Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) posted a score of 83 (+10) to place herself in a tie for 48th place after 18 holes.
Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) shot 87 (+14) to finish the first day in a tie for 68th place, Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) is in a tie for 76th place after shooting 90 (+17) in the first round, and Michelle Grome (Edmonds, Wash.) posted a first-round score of 95 (+22) to find herself in a tie for 88th place.
As a team, Seattle University combined for a first-round score of 337 (+45), ahead of Cal State San Marcos and Idaho State. UC Riverside is currently in the lead of the team standings after posting a score of 304 (+12) in the first round, six strokes ahead of Northern Arizona.
Seattle University will begin the second and final round on the 10th hole at 7:51 a.m. This will be the final tournament of the fall season for the Redhawks.
