The Seattle University men's soccer team was unable to stop the offense of the University of New Mexico at key times, as the Lobos scored once in each half for a 2-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory Friday night at the UNM Soccer Complex.

New Mexico (7-4-2, 4-2-0 MPSF) broke through in the 38th minute thanks to quick reaction by Josh Caffey off a Lobo corner kick. After the kick sailed across the box, Caffey gathered the ball and sent it past Seattle U goalie Jake Feener (Rocklin, Calif.) for his third tally of the season. This came after Feener stopped a shot attempted by Michael Reed from the top of the box just over a minute earlier.

Seattle U quickly responded, drawing consecutive corner kicks. On the second one, Sean Morris' (Bothell, Wash.) kick reached Ed Walugembe (Kampala, Uganda), whose shot inside the 18 in the 40th minute was blocked by the Lobo defense. The first half would end with New Mexico outshooting Seattle U, 7-3, including three shots on goal for the Lobos versus no shots on goal for the Redhawks.

New Mexico added an insurance goal midway through the second half, as Blake Smith found Travis Campbell on the left wing, and Campbell converted on his attempt for his first goal of the season. Smith attempted to notch his own goal with about 20 minutes left in the second half, but Feener was able to make the save on his shot.

The Redhawks increased the offensive pressure in an effort to get on the board, but Morris' shot from the right wing in the 81st minute and Walugembe's header almost two minutes later were both denied by Lobo goalie Justin Holmes. Holmes finished with four saves in picking up the shutout while Feener collected five saves during the contest.

"Our guys fought hard and had some chances to score. Give New Mexico credit, they're a very good team," head coach Brad Agoos said.

Seattle University (3-8-3, 1-4-1 MPSF) will head to Las Vegas, Nev., for a conference match against UNLV Sunday, Oct. 24, beginning at 1 p.m. The Redhawks will then return to Seattle to prepare for the final two home matches of the season against Air Force Friday, Oct. 29, at 2:30 p.m. and against Denver Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1:30 p.m.
