In their first road conference match of the 2010 campaign, the Seattle University men's soccer team was unable to extend their two-game unbeaten streak at Sacramento State Friday afternoon. The Redhawks were shutout 2-0 by the Hornets, behind Chris Bettencourt's pair of goals. With the loss, SU falls to 3-6-3 overall, 1-2-1 MPSF, while CSUS improves to 6-3-3 overall, 1-1-2 MPSF.

The Hornets came out attacking the Redhawk goal early. Despite CSUS outshooting SU 17-9, the Seattle U backline remained composed. Behind freshman goalkeeper Jake Feener (Rocklin, Calif.), who had seven saves in the half, SU was able to deflect the Hornets' shots and head into halftime with scoreless tie.

The second half was much more even statistically, with Sacramento State edging Seattle U 8-7 in shots and both sides have a pair of shots on frame. The Redhawks fired off a two shots to kick off the half, but were unable to send in anything on frame. Sacramento State took advantage of Seattle U's inability to get the ball into the back of the net and sent it deep into the Redhawk half of the field. In the 56th minute Ceasar Castillo found Bettencourt on a breakaway to take a 1-0 Hornet lead.

Seattle U worked to equalize the score and set up several offensive chances, but was unable to get on the board and tie the game. On the other end of the field, Almog Strikowski sent a through ball to an oncoming Bettencourt, who sent in his second goal of the game in the 80th minute to seal the Hornet victory.

"We didn't play particularly well on either side of the ball today," said head coach Brad Agoos. "I give Sacramento State a lot of credit for keeping us under pressure and getting a result. They are a quality team."

The Redhawks look to rebound on Sunday, Oct. 17, when they travel to San Jose State to square off with the Spartans in a 1 p.m. match.
