Last Tuesday was our first official team practice of the year and it went very well. The new players are fitting in great and everyone is working extremely hard. After all the work we were exhausted and were given the day off on Wednesday. Instead of practice, we traveled up a few blocks from the Connolly Center to the Rotary Boys and Girls Club. We volunteered during "Girls Only Gym," so we got to hang out with a dozen elementary school girls. We all branched out a little and played soccer with the girls. Even though we had quite a few handballs, we still had fun. To finish off the day we played a game of kickball. The Boys and Girls Club really appreciates our help and we know we're making a positive impact on the kids.
But 7 AM practice came quick Thursday morning and we were back to the daily grind.
I've been thinking a lot about the amount of people that support this team. I was walking outside the Connolly Center and ran into Greg Sempadian, the athletic department's Senior Administrative Assistant, and all he could talk about is how excited he is for our season and how well we're going to do. Tomorrow our newly renovated locker room is getting honored and we're expecting a 100 people to come. With this much support how can we fail?
Last weekend I went to P.F. Changs and my fortune cookie said:
"Keep an eye open for an opportunity in the field of sports."
This year is our opportunity to do something great!! Go Redhawks!
