Paced by an even-par round by Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.), the Seattle University women's golf team ended the first day of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate in a tie for 12th place after playing the first 18 holes of the tournament Monday at the New Mexico State University Golf Course.

McCleary shot 36 on each side of the course for an even-par 72, good enough to finish the first day in a tie for 11th place. She is just three strokes behind a three-way tie for second place and only one shot behind a six-way tie for fifth place.

Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) posted a first-round score of 77 (+5) to finish in a tie for 41st place, while Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) is in a tie for 52nd place after shooting 78 (+6) over the first 18 holes. Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) shot 84 (+12) to put herself in 74th place, and Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) was right behind her in a tie for 75th place after shooting an opening-round 85 (+13).

As a team, Seattle University posted a cumulative score of 311 (+23), tied with Cal State Northridge and Hawaii for 12th place. Led by a blistering 65 (-7) from first round individual leader Jaclyn Jansen, Baylor currently holds the lead in the team standings at 285 (-3), one stroke ahead of UC Irvine. Other teams playing in the tournament include SEC school Mississippi State, Big 12 member Kansas, Big East school Cincinnati, and UTEP from Conference USA.

Seattle University will continue play in the tournament, with the second round set to begin at 8:30 a.m. local time Tuesday and the third round finishing off the 54-hole tournament Wednesday starting at 8:00 a.m. Mountain time.
