"I think Jake has done tremendously this season," said head coach Brad Agoos. "He has been working hard for this opportunity, and we knew he was a big game and big save type of 'keeper. The possibility for the type of solid performance he had last weekend was always there and now it is up to him to maintain this level of play."
Feener made his collegiate debut in the Redhawks match versus San Jose State on Oct. 8. Despite the match being his first-ever at the NCAA Division I level, the Californian performed like a seasoned veteran. He was a vocal leader guiding SU to a 0-0 double overtime shutout versus the Spartans. In addition to playing the entire 110 minute contest, he posted seven saves.
Two days later, the Seattle U 'keeper guided the Redhawks to their first MPSF conference victory of the season over Sacramento State, 1-0. He posted his second consecutive clean sheet in as many contests and tallied five saves. The victory snapped the Hornets eight game unbeaten streak.
Feener is the second Redhawk to earn conference honors this season, as fellow goalkeeper senior Ivan Dizdar (Croatia) was recognized as MPSF Player of the Week on Sept. 21.
The SU rookie and the Redhawks will take to the road for a four game road swing, beginning in Northern California. Seattle U (3-5-3 overall, 1-1-1 MPSF) will take on Sacramento State on Friday, Oct. 15, in a 4 p.m. match and close out the weekend at San Jose State on Sunday, Oct. 17, in a 1 p.m. contest.
