For most, the night before school starts is a time to relax and enjoy the last stress-free, homework-free night, but not for members of the volleyball team. Instead, we were playing a match against the University of Portland in front of an amazing crowd of other athletes, students, faculty, staff, and family. Thanks to the all the support and encouragement from our crowd, we were able to pull off a five-set victory!

I have loved being a student-athlete at Seattle University and was actually sad to start my very last first day of school. Like every other athlete, there is a difficulty in trying to find the balance between your sport, school, and social life. In my past three years, the one thing I have learned that has helped me to be so successful has been time management. I communicate with my professors for missed worked or help, I keep a calendar where I write down when assignments are due, and I try to get things done early instead of procrastinating.

My typical day:

6:30 a.m.             Wake up, eat, and get ready for school.

7:45-8:50 a.m.      Structural Design

8:50-10 a.m.        Work on homework

10-10:50 a.m.        Principles of Environmental Engineering

11-11:50 a.m.        Senior Design

12-3 p.m.              Eat lunch, work on homework

4-7 p.m.                Practice

8-11 p.m.               Eat dinner, work on homework, watch TV, shower

11 p.m.                  Go to bed

Other days I find time to lift, do rehab for injuries, and watch film.

Life of a student-athlete is very time consuming but with good time management skills you can be successful in both school and in sports.

After a tough weekend in California with losses to USF and Santa Clara, we look forward to getting back to Seattle and have a week of practice before our next match on Monday, October 4 against Eastern Washington.
