All five members of the Seattle University women's golf team competing this week showed improvement from the first round to Wednesday's final round, helping the team to a 12th place finish in the Cougar Cup hosted by Washington State University at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) made two birdies on her way to a second straight 75, finishing the tournament in a tie for 20th place with a three-round total of 235 (+19). Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) also posted two birdies during her final round 80, finishing the tournament in 53rd place with a three-day total of 249 (+33).

Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) made the most progress between the second round and the third round, cutting ten strokes off her previous score with a final-round 79 for a three-round total of 256 (+40) and a tied for 58th place. Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) earned the same cumulative score after a final-round 80, and Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) shot 86 for the second straight day to end the tournament in a tie for 64th place with 263 (+47).

As a team, Seattle University dropped 17 more strokes from the previous day's score, posting a third round score of 314 (+26) to finish with a cumulative score of 993 (+129), just five strokes behind Eastern Washington. Washington State defended its home course with a one-stroke victory over rival Washington, while Karinn Dickinson of the Huskies and Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho tied for the individual title with an identical score of 220 (+4).

Seattle University will take a couple of weeks off before heading to its next competition, the New Mexico State "Give 'em Five" Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 11-13.
