This Week for the Redhawks: The Seattle University men's soccer team will open up the 2010 home campaign by hosting their first-ever Division I tournament. The Seattle University Tournament will feature Gonzaga, University of Illinois-Chicago and Michigan. The Redhawks will take on Gonzaga in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 10, at 3:30 p.m. They will close out the weekend with Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 12, in a 1:30 p.m. match.

Last Time Out:
The Redhawks played very competitively in their opening weekend of action at the SMU Classic. They opened with then-No. 5 Tulsa on Sept. 4. After taking a 1-0 first half lead, three late goals by the Golden Hurricane dropped SU in the contest, 3-1. Seattle U closed out the weekend on Sept. 6, falling to tournament host Southern Methodist 3-0. Both Nico De la Cruz and Brandon Hamer were named to the all-tournament team.

Agoos' Thoughts: "We are excited hosting three solid teams this weekend. Gonzaga is a great in-state Jesuit rival, so it is always good to face them. Michigan is a top notch soccer program, so they bring a lot of experience with them and the University of Illinois-Chicago is a great Midwest soccer team. We are looking forward to hosting this weekend's tournament after playing in a very tough tournament at SMU," said head coach Brad Agoos.

De la Cruz and Hamer Named to All-Tournament Team: Freshman Nico De la Cruz and senior Brandon Hamer were named to the SMU Classic All-Tournament Team.

Veteran Trio to Captain Squad in 2010: Senior Sean Morris, and juniors David Raney and Demaci Roussos will captain the Redhawks in 2010. The trio of veterans are experienced leaders and have helped guide Seattle U through the transition into full NCAA Division I status.

Steppin' Up: Freshman Nico De la Cruz has already made an immediate impact in the Redhawk lineup. He was the only newcomer to start in and play the full 90 minutes in both contests this past weekend at the SMU Classic. He capped off the tournament by being named to the all-tournament team.

Hansen Scores on No. 5 Golden Hurricane: The Redhawks sophomore midfielder Tyler Hansen saw the back of the net in the 17th minute of SU's Sept. 4, contest versus then-No. 5 Tulsa. Seattle U held onto their 1-0 advantage until midway through the second half.

Postseason Eligible: For the first time since reclassifying back into full NCAA Division I status the Seattle U men's soccer team is eligible for postseason play.

Fresh Faces: The Redhawks welcome eight newcomers, including seven freshmen to the lineup this season. Head coach Brad Agoos will look to the incoming class to compete for starting spots or push the guys ahead of them.

Scouting Gonzaga: The Bulldogs of Gonzaga travel west after falling in their opening contest of the 2010 campaign. GU dropped a decisive 4-0 decision to then-No. 25 UC Irvine.

Versus the Anteaters, the Bulldogs tallied only three shots to UCI's 21. Between the posts, the team split time between Jeff Renslo and Ryan Caballero, both goalkeepers gave up a pair of goals each.

Gonzaga is picked to finish in seventh place in the West Coast Conference this season. This will be SU's first meeting with GU since reclassifying.

Scouting Michigan: Michigan opened the season with 1-1 record, seeing an opening day 2-1 overtime victory over Detriot on Sept. 1. The Wolverines are coming off a 1-0 loss to then-No. 14 Drake on Sept. 3.

Hamoody and Soony Saad lead the team's offense, each sporting a goal apiece. S. Saad has tallied 19 shots in two games, thus far.

Defensively, goalkeeper Chris Blais posts six saves and a GAA of 0.95.

This is the first meeting between SU and UM.
