The Seattle University men's soccer team concluded play at the SMU Classic with a 3-0 loss to tournament host Southern Methodist Monday afternoon at Wescott Field in Dallas, Texas. With the loss, SU falls to 0-2 on the season, while SMU improves to 3-0.

The Mustangs took control of the ball early and took it deep into the Seattle U half of the field. SMU fired off five shots early, but goalkeeper Ivan Dizdar (Croatia) was able to get his gloves on all three shots that were on target. Southern Methodist was able to break through the Redhawk defense to take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute behind a Juan Castillo goal.

Seattle U struggled to get the ball into the SMU box during the first half, as the Mustangs prevented them from firing off any shots in the period. On the other end of the field, Southern Methodist tallied 10 shots in the period. Heading into halftime SMU's Ben Hill extended their lead in the 44th minute, when he headed in a Chris Sendejas pass from a yard out.

Freshman Ben Striar (Portland, Ore.) recorded SU's first shot in the game in the 60th minute. Two minutes later Sean Morris (Bothell, Wash.) took Seattle U's second corner kick of the game. David Raney (Lynnwood, Wash.) headed the ball, but it went wide of the goal. The duo connected again nine minutes later, but Raney's shot again went wide of the goal.

Following Seattle U's offensive attack, the Mustangs pushed the ball out of their box into the Redhawk half. Goalkeeper Dizdar was able to get his hands on and save Arthur Ivo's shot, but the ball went out of bounds leading to a Mustang corner kick. Payton Hickey took the corner kick, which Adam Still received and passed to Sendejas who shot it in from three yards out to score SMU's third goal of the game in the 78th minute.

The Redhawks will return to the Emerald City to host their home opener this weekend. SU will host the Seattle University Tournament, opening the weekend with the WCC's Gonzaga Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 10. First kick is slated for 3:30 p.m. Two days later, Seattle U will close out the weekend with Michigan in a 1:30 p.m. contest.
