Last Time Out: The Redhawks (2-2) went a perfect 2-0 on the road this past weekend, seeing victories over UC Riverside and UC Irvine. SU opened up the road half of the schedule at Riverside on Aug. 27. After battling a tough Highlander squad, freshman Shawna Anderson received a cross from classmate Monique Escalera to score the game-winner in the 61st minute.
Two days later at UC Irvine, Seattle U gave up an early first half goal to the Anteaters after getting off to a slow offensive start. As the end of the first period approached, redshirt freshman Heather Thomas scored the equalizing goal off a free kick. It was her first career goal. In the second half, junior Renee Vandermause subbed into the game and controlled the ball on an Anteater defensive deflection. She scored the game-winner and her first career goal to lift SU to the 2-1 victory.
What Woodward Says: "We are looking forward to playing this weekend. We were able to come away with two wins last weekend and have worked on making some adjustments going into this weekend's games. I think the newcomers are starting to feel more comfortable out there and are adding a lot to the team."

Golden Results in Golden State: The Redhawks were able to snap their two game skid with a pair of solid victories in California this past weekend. The team showed a lot of grit and character, earning a late 1-0 win over UC Riverside on Aug. 27, and coming back from being down early to earn a 2-1 victory over UC Irvine on Aug. 29.
College Firsts: Freshman Shawna Anderson, redshirt freshman Heather Thomas and junior Renee Vandermause each scored their first career collegiate goal this past weekend in Southern California. Both Anderson's and Vandermause's goals were the game-winners.
Vandermause Named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week: After scoring her first career goal and the game-winner in SU's come-from-behind 2-1 victory over UC Irvine on Aug. 29, junior defender Renee Vandermause was named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com. She is an all around student-athlete boasting a 3.631 cumulative grade point average as a civil engineering major with an environmental engineering focus.
Scouting Eastern Washington: The Eagles of Eastern Washington (0-1-1) host the Redhawks in their season opener after opening 2010 on the road. In their opening match on Aug. 27, they tied CSU Bakersfield 1-1. Two days later, the team fell 4-0 to Cal State Fullerton.
The squad's offensive leader is Whitney Brannan, who has the team's lone goal of the year. She also has tallied seven shots to lead the team.
EWU has had two goalkeepers see time between the posts this season. Jamie Walker has played in both games, seeing 125:33 minutes, allowing three goals against for a GAA of 2.15. She holds a 0-1-1 record and has made six saves. Also seeing time between the pipes is Lisa Dimak, who has played 75 minutes. She has conceded two goals and made eight saves.
The Last Time Seattle U Faced Eastern Washington: The Redhawks earned a 2-0 shutout over EWU in their last meeting on Aug. 31, 2009 in Seattle. Taylor Fannin received a cross from Kara Kuttler and shot it to the far right post past the diving Eagle 'keeper in the 75th minute to score the game-winner. Forty-nine seconds later, this time Fannin crossed the ball to Kuttler, who shot it into the far post to give Seattle U their third shutout in four games.
Scouting Gonzaga: West Coast Conference and in-state Jesuit rival Gonzaga (2-1-1) will play on the road for their fifth contest in a six-game span. Prior to traveling west, they will host UC Irvine on Friday, Sept. 3. They are currently ranked in the top 10 in the NSCAA/adidas West Poll.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-0-1 performance at the University of Montana Tournament, where they drew 1-1 in double overtime with Nevada on Aug. 27, and edged Montana 3-2 two days later. The team's lone loss came on Aug. 22, at the Washington State Tournament. They were shutout 2-0 by then-ranked No. 6 Florida State.
Sarah Rhodes has scored four goals and posts an assist for nine points in four games. Sheridan Jones has a goal and an assist, as well.
Defensively, Lauren Ames has started and played in all four games at goalkeeper. She sports a 1.42 GAA and has made 14 saves. She's allowed six goals this season.
The Last Time Seattle U Faced Gonzaga: The Redhawks are looking to vindicate their 2-1 loss in Spokane last year on Sept. 17. After a first half goal from Kara Kuttler, defensive breakdowns late in the second half allowed the Bulldogs to score a pair of goals and earn the victory.
