The Seattle U Redhawks started off our season this past weekend with a match versus Portland State. It was a close game that we unfortunately lost, but learned a lot from. This match was particularly memorable for the freshmen as it was our first college game ever and we were full of nerves and excitement. The most memorable moment for me would have to be the first ball I touched...which hit me in the face. Although it was extremely embarrassing, it was also really funny and I knew that the night could only improve from that and my worries immediately decreased.
Our second match was against Eastern Washington, who put up a strong fight. We won the match in five sets, with the score of the fifth set being 15-13. We won our last match against Mercer in three games. Another awesome event from the weekend was the fact that Jamie Mellies reached her 3,000th career assist, making her the second player in the history of Seattle U to achieve that. Overall, it was a great start to our season, giving us a winning record and the expectation of a solid season ahead!
This coming weekend, we are going to travel for the first time this season. This is extra exciting for me because we are off to Arizona, where I'm from! I'm so psyched to see my friends and family, and the team is even coming to my house for dinner one of the nights. Our competition this weekend will be Arizona State, Utah State, and San Diego State. Wish us luck!
