After successful respective careers with the Redhawks, the duo immediately became impact players with the Sounders. Both Coe and Reiter gelled with the experienced veterans already on the team and added depth to the roster. Coe, who played at forward with Seattle U, moved to the backline with her new team and the Duvall, Wash. native saw action in nine contests at defender.
"I told myself that I would only play with the Sounders if I was having fun and that's exactly what it was!" exclaimed Coe. "It is great to play at this next level with a group of women who are just as competitive as me, and self-driven to be fit and improve as players."
"It overall is a much more mature style of soccer where we were expected to play smart, quick, technical soccer all the time. One of my most memorable moments of the season was our first win after a stretch of games that we didn't win, but should have. It was great to have all of our hard work finally pay off!" concluded Coe.
As for Reiter, she has also seen her own success with the Sounders. The Billings, Mont. native played in all 10 games this past season for the team in the midfield and tallied a pair of shots. She was one of only six players on the 22-player roster to see action in all 10 matches in 2010.
"Being able to continue playing with the Sounders Women's has been an experience I cannot truly put into words," said Reiter. "I've always dreamt of playing at the next level, but never knew how realistic it was. I had the best college experience at Seattle University, where my teammates, coaches, professors and the fans helped support and prepare me to have a successful career, but also give me the opportunity, confidence, and encouragement to continue playing after college."
"I realized as I finished up my career at Seattle U that if you push yourself to work to your potential and work hard that dreams do come true. The experience of playing with the Sounders Women seems so surreal to me, but has been a blessing and I'm very thankful for the opportunity," Reiter said.
In addition to Coe and Reiter, the Seattle U women's soccer program is well represented on the Sounder Women's roster. Tafara Pulse '05 currently plays for the team and had a successful 2010 campaign, scoring a pair of goals in 10 games in the midfield. Current members of the Redhawk coaching staff also play for the Sounders, with volunteer assistant goalkeeping coach Katie Hultin as their starting 'keeper. Assistant coach Allison Tenney is also a member of the team; however she missed much of the season due to an injury. The Sounders concluded the year with a 2-2-6 overall record and tied for second place in the league.
The current Seattle U women's soccer team is prepping to embark on the 2010 campaign, which is set to commence on Friday, Aug. 20, in a 5 p.m. match with the University of Washington.
