Garcia is one of 16 players on the summer league roster for the Knicks who will participate in a two-day mini-camp at Clark High School Friday, July 9, and Saturday, July 10. Among Garcia's teammates over the next nine days are second-round draft picks Landry Fields of Stanford and Andy Rautins of Syracuse, fellow Lou Henson All-America Team member Ryan Wittman of Cornell, and Patrick Ewing, Jr., the son of the legendary Knick center.
After the mini-camp, the Knicks will begin play Sunday, July 11, against the Denver Nuggets beginning at 1 p.m. On Monday, July 12, at 1 p.m., the back-to-back NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers will serve as the Knicks' opposition. After a day off, the Knicks will face the Toronto Raptors Wednesday, July 14, beginning at 3 p.m.
Another day off is followed by games against the Detroit Pistons Friday, July 16, and the Washington Wizards Saturday, July 17, both starting at 1 p.m. All five games will be televised by NBA TV and the MSG Network as well as streamed online through Summer League Broadband on NBA.com.
After transferring from Riverside Community College, Garcia averaged 18.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game as Seattle U posted a 17-14 record, including victories at Oregon State and at Utah. He started receiving attention from NBA scouts after a 27-point, 11-rebound performance against Weber State on Nov. 22, a 24-point effort in the victory over Utah on Nov. 24, and a 41-point performance against Wofford College in Las Vegas, Nev., on Nov. 28.
Over 20 NBA scouts were on hand in San Jose, Calif., on Feb. 22, as Garcia scored 20 points and helped Seattle U pull out a 90-88 victory over San Jose State. After declaring for the NBA Draft, Garcia was invited to participate in the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, Ill., and also traveled to work out for the Knicks as well as the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings, and San Antonio Spurs.
