Seattle University head women's soccer coach Julie Woodward announced the 2010 schedule Friday, which features four squads that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season. The Redhawks are slated to play 19 contests, including hosting nine games at Championship Field, which is currently undergoing renovations for the upcoming season.

"For the second year in a row we have a very challenging schedule, which I am extremely excited about," said Woodward. "We play a good combination of teams from the WCC, Pac-10, Big West and a handful of other strong opponents. Many of the teams we play competed in the NCAA tournament last year by way of winning their conference or boasting a high RPI. We are looking forward to seeing how we measure up."

Seattle U will open up the season with three straight home games, including an exhibition match versus Trinity Western University on Sunday, Aug. 15., starting at 2 p.m. The following week, the Redhawks will host a pair of Pacific-10 NCAA Tournament qualifying teams in the University of Washington and Oregon State. On Friday, Aug. 20, cross-town rival Washington will travel to Championship Field for a 5 p.m. contest. In their last meeting in 2009, the Huskies edged SU 2-1 at Husky Soccer Complex after the Redhawks took an early 1-0 advantage. Two days later, Seattle U will face their final Pac-10 opponent of the season in the OSU Beavers. First kick is set for 1 p.m.

The team will hit the road for a three-game swing, beginning with a pair of Southern California games. On Friday, Aug. 27, the Redhawks will face off with UC Riverside in a 7 p.m. matchup. They will close out their Golden State weekend with UC Irvine on Sunday, Aug. 29, in a 1 p.m. game. The final leg of their road swing will bring Seattle U to Eastern Washington in a 4:30 p.m. game Friday, Sept. 3, in Cheney, Wash.

SU will return to Championship Field for a one-game stint. In a rematch from last year's last-second loss, the Redhawks will square off with Gonzaga, taking on the Bulldogs on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m.

Four days later, Seattle U will be on the road again with a pair of games in the state of Idaho. They will take on Idaho State on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. in Pocatello, and close out the weekend at NCAA Tournament participant Boise State on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. Last year, the Redhawks played both BSU and ISU in their season-opening weekend, shutting out both opponents.

Following their trip to Idaho, SU will enjoy the comforts of home for two straight weeks. They will kick off the home stand with Cleveland State on Sunday, Sept. 19, in a noon matchup. The following week Seattle U will host a weekend chalk full of action, beginning with the University of Idaho on Friday, Sept. 24, in a 1 p.m. game. Two days later, on Sunday, Sept. 26, the Redhawks will host Sacramento State at noon.

In a midweek matchup, Utah Valley will travel to the Emerald City for a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday, Sept. 29. The Redhawks will open up the month of October with a 12 p.m. contest with Portland State on Sunday, Oct. 3.

Following their stint at home, Seattle U will close out the season on the road with five games, beginning in Waco, Texas. Their longest road trip of the year will be to take on the Baylor University Bears in a 5 p.m. PT game on Friday, Oct. 15.

The Redhawks will play their final four games in the California, starting off with a contest against Cal Poly Sunday, Oct. 17, beginning at 12 p.m. NCAA Tournament qualifier UC Santa Barbara is next on the docket on Thursday, Oct. 21, in a 7 p.m. game. Last season, the Redhawks dramatically defeated UCSB 3-2 in a double-overtime contest in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The final weekend of the regular season will see Seattle U back in Southern California. On Friday, Oct. 29, they will begin in Bakersfield with the CSUB Roadrunners. First kick is slated for 7 p.m. Two days later, SU will travel towards the coast and take on Cal State Northridge in a 1 p.m. matchup.

As part of Seattle University's reclassification process into full Division I status, the Redhawk women's soccer team will be eligible to participate in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since SU transitioned into DI.
