Seattle University head men's soccer coach Brad Agoos announced the 2010 schedule Tuesday. The Redhawks are scheduled to play 18 games this season, including eight contests to be hosted at Championship Field. The upcoming season will see several challenging opponents, including four squads that qualified for the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

"The schedule we play this year will be another great test for us," Agoos said. "Playing against other top programs is the best way for us to develop as a program and give our players the best chance to mature. Also, this being the first year we are eligible for being in the NCAA postseason tournament, we feel this schedule has the quality to earn an NCAA playoff berth if we can be focused and successful. For the fans and our soccer community, being able to come see quality games at home like Michigan, Gonzaga, and Portland, to name a few, will be great for everyone, and with the newly renovated Championship Field, will make it one of the best places to play in the country."

The Redhawks will kick off the season at the SMU Tournament in Dallas, Texas, with their season opener Saturday, Sept. 4, against Tulsa, who reached the third round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. In last year's meeting with the Golden Hurricane, SU tied them, 1-1, in Tulsa, Okla. Seattle U will conclude their trip with tournament host SMU on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6. Saturday's match is slated to start at 5 p.m. Central time, with Monday's contest beginning at 2:30 p.m. local time.

Seattle U then heads back to the Emerald City to host the Seattle University Tournament. SU will take on Gonzaga of the West Coast Conference in a 3:30 p.m. match Friday, Sept. 10. The Redhawks will close out their home-opening weekend with Michigan Sunday, Sept. 12, in a 1:30 p.m. game. Illinois-Chicago will also be taking part in the tournament.

SU will participate in their second tournament away from home the following weekend, but this time they will remain on the West Coast. Seattle U will square off with a pair of opponents at the Oregon State Hensor/Zaher Nike Classic in Corvallis, Ore. The Redhawks will open with Central Arkansas Friday, Sept. 17. First kick is slated for 2 p.m. SU will close out their weekend of action in a 1:30 p.m. contest versus UC Davis Sunday, Sept. 19.

The team will close out the non-conference schedule with their fourth consecutive tournament of the season. The Redhawks will travel to the Husky Soccer Complex to participate in the Husky Fever Classic. Seattle U will open up with tournament host Washington, their only Pacific-10 opponent scheduled opponent, Friday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. SU will conclude the weekend with 2009 NCAA Tournament Third Round participant the University of Portland. The Pilots are the second WCC squad slated on the 2010 schedule. This is scheduled to be one of three matches at Championship Field Sunday, Sept. 26.

Seattle U will open up Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play Sunday, Oct. 3, at Championship Field with Cal State Bakersfield. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. in their conference-opening contest, as it will be the second half of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team.

The Redhawks will remain at home the following weekend with a pair of matches. They will host San Jose State Friday, Oct. 8. The game versus the Spartans is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. Two days later, 2009 MPSF Champions and NCAA Tournament Second Round participant Sacramento State will head to Championship Field for a 1:30 p.m. game.

Seattle U will begin their first road conference weekend in Sacramento with the CSUS Hornets in a 4 p.m. game Friday, Oct. 15. They will travel to the Bay Area two days later to take on San Jose State in San Jose, Calif., starting at 1 p.m.

SU will remain on the road the next weekend, opening at NCAA Tournament participant New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. Pacific Time Friday, Oct. 22. The Redhawks will wrap up the weekend at UNLV Sunday, Oct. 24, in Las Vegas, Nev., beginning at 1 p.m.

After two weeks away from home, Seattle U will return to Championship Field for their final home weekend of the regular season. They will square off with Air Force Friday, Oct. 29, in a 2:30 p.m. game and close out the home portion of the season with Denver Sunday, Oct. 31. First kick is set for 1:30 p.m.

The Redhawks will conclude the regular season with a final game at Cal State Bakersfield. They will take on the Roadrunners on Sunday, Nov. 7, in Bakersfield, Calif., starting at 1:30 p.m. If Seattle U finishes in the top six in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, it will qualify for the MPSF Tournament, to be hosted by Sacramento State Nov. 11-14, with the winner earning the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

As part of Seattle University's reclassification process into full Division I status, the Redhawk men's soccer team will be eligible to participate in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since SU transitioned into DI. The Seattle University men's soccer program won the NAIA National Championship in 1997 and the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2004.
