Head Seattle University women's basketball coach Joan Bonvicini announced the signing of junior college transfer Annie Kassongo to a National Letter of Intent. The former Swiss National Team member will join Seattle U for the 2010-11 season.

"Annie is an outstanding addition to our program," said Bonvicini. "She is an excellent athlete, a premier shot blocker, and her two years of experience at Barton Community College and on the Swiss National Team will really prepare her for college competition at Seattle U."

The Geneva, Switzerland native spent the last two seasons at Barton Community College. As a sophomore, she was an All-NJCAA Second Team selection, and the single season holder in both blocks and doubles. The 6-2 forward started and played in all 30 games, averaging 30.6 minutes of action. Kassongo shot 49.5 percent from the field, averaging 14.7 points per game. She led the team in points scored, with 440. Kassongo averaged a double-double, with 10 rebounds per game. She tallied 301 boards on the year, including 191 defensive rebounds. She posted 133 blocks, 57 steals and 36 assists on the season, as well.

Kassongo is the seventh newcomer to join the Redhawks for the upcoming season. In addition to Kassongo, next year Bonvicini will welcome Daidra Brown (Seattle, Wash.), Talisa Rhea (Juneau, Alaska), Sylvia Shepard (Alta Loma, Calif.), Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) and Ashley Ward (Irvine, Calif.). The final member of the 2010-11 class is Amani Butler (Corona, Calif.), who redshirted this past season after transferring from the University of Arizona.
