Seattle University starter Arlo Evasick (Port Ludlow, Wash.) seemed to be in control, but one bad pitch allowed Lewis-Clark State, the top-ranked team in the NAIA, to pull ahead on its way to a 5-3 victory under sunny skies Saturday afternoon at Bannerwood Park.

Having allowed only one run and three hits through the first seven innings, Evasick hit Jason Hague with a pitch to lead off the eighth inning. Brian Gaylord sent a ground ball up the middle that seemed destined to produce at least one out, but Cullen Hendrickson (Auburn, Wash.) misplayed the ball, putting runners at first and second. Trent Bridges failed to put down a sacrifice bunt and Josh Ashenbrenner flied out to center field, but Pat Murray sent the first pitch he faced over the left field fence for his ninth home run of the season to give the Warriors a 4-3 lead.

After Seattle University stranded two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth, Lewis-Clark State added an insurance run in the ninth, as Hague sent a single up the middle that drove in pinch runner Bryan Abrey. Henry Buenrostro, the winning pitcher in Friday's game, earned the save by pitching the final 1 1/3 innings for the Warriors.

The Redhawks took the lead in the second inning as singles by Bryndon Ecklund (Elma, Wash.) and Steve Kirbach (Kirkland, Wash.) put two runners on base with one out. Nick Latta (Tacoma, Wash.) laid down a perfect bunt that he was going to beat out, but Warrior pitcher Tyler Lichty attempted a throw anyway, overshooting the first baseman and forcing the fielders to chase after the ball, but not before Ecklund and Kirbach came around to score. Latta would score on a single by Phil Parrish (Escalon, Calif.).

Seattle U had a chance to extend the lead in the third inning, but Hendrickson was thrown out at the plate attempting to score from second on a single by Kirbach. Lewis-Clark State broke through in the fourth inning, as Ashenbrenner scored on a groundout by Jake Eccles. Evasick settled down after allowing the run, retiring 10 of the next 11 Warrior hitters.

The Redhawks had another chance to increase its lead in the sixth inning, as Ecklund led off with a single. However, he was picked off first base, but Seattle U kept the pressure on when Riley Tompkins (Lynnwood, Wash.) walked and Kirbach singled to left field. Eric Yardley (Richland, Wash.) sent a ground ball up the middle, but Bridges was able to start an inning-ending double play to keep the Warriors close.

Colby Hawk picked up the victory for the Warriors, allowing two hits and a walk in two innings of work. Lewis-Clark State (47-3) was held to five hits, with no one earning more than one hits during the afternoon. Kirbach led the Redhawks offensively, going 3-for-4, while Ecklund and Latta finished with two hits apiece.
