Seattle University took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when senior Doug Buser (Orinda, Calif.) singled up the middle, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout to first base by Nate Roberts (Silverdale, Wash.), and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Cullen Hendrickson (Auburn, Wash.). Roberts would earn the Redhawks' only other hit of the game with a single to center field to lead off the fourth inning.
Nevada (20-13-1) tied the game in the fourth as Westley Moss drew a walk and then advanced to third base on a stolen base and a throwing error. Nick Melino would drive in Moss with a single through the right side of the infield. SeattleU starter Arlo Evasick (Port Ludlow, Wash.) gave up only two hits and one unearned run through the first five innings.
In the sixth inning, Evasick hit Kevin Rodland to lead off the frame, and after a sacrifice bunt, Shaun Kort sent a popup high into the sky, but Redhawk catcher Skip Spencer (Springfield, Ore.) was unable to catch the ball, putting runners on second and third. Brock Stassi was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Melino walked to force in Rodland, and Brian Barnett walked to force in Kort and end Evasick's day. Stassi would score on a wild pitch by Max Whieldon (Trabuco Hills, Calif.).
Stassi earned the victory for Nevada after allowing just two hits, one walk, and one run in eight innings, striking out six SeattleU batters. Tyler Graham picked up his fourth save of the season after pitching a perfect ninth inning. Evasick took the loss after allowing two hits, three walks, and four runs in 5 1/3 innings of work, while Whieldon pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, giving up two hits and a walk while striking out three batters.
