In her first attempt in the finals, Currier launched the discus 41.85 meters (137' 4"), the exact distance she posted at this meet on April 14, 2007 as a freshman to originally set the school record. In another coincidence, she finished second in the event both in 2007 and this time around, as Torrie Self of host school Central Washington won the event with a best effort of 42.37 meters (139').
Currier continually improved her distance through her first four throws, starting at 38.77 meters (127' 2") and then increasing to 39.83 meters (130' 7") and 40.77 meters (133' 9") before posting the record-tying distance. Although she fouled in her final two attempts, it was a big day for Currier as she has battled injuries and other issues over the past two years in an attempt to regain the form from her freshman campaign.
In other SeattleU track and field news, several members of the team will head to Bellingham, Wash., next Friday, April 23, to compete in the Western Washington University Twilight meet at Civic Stadium beginning at 2:45 p.m.
