Nevada (19-13-1) jumped on the board in the first inning when Kevin Rodland doubled, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Shaun Kort. Brock Stassi singled to right field, and Nick Melino followed with a home run over the right field fence to give the Wolf Pack a 3-0 lead.
The visitors pulled away with nine runs in the second inning, punctuated by a grand slam home run by Stassi. Nevada scored three runs in the sixth inning, a single run in the eighth inning, and six runs in the ninth inning, including a grand slam home run by Jamison Rowe.
Seattle University was held to one hit, a single by Doug Buser (Orinda, Calif.) in the eighth inning. Chris Garcia started the game for Nevada, pitching five hitless innings with five strikeouts, and Tom Jameson pitched the final four innings, allowing just the one hit with one strikeout.
Of the six pitchers used by the Redhawks, Phil Parrish (Escalon, Calif.) was the most effective, allowing just three hits in 3 2/3 innings of work while striking out two Nevada batters.
