Seattle University softball player Sandra Hernandez (Redlands, Calif.) was named Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Week for the Mountain Division after a standout conference opening weekend. The Redhawk senior infielder had a dominating performance at the plate for SU hitting .417, behind three home runs and nine RBIs.

"Sandra had an incredible weekend at the plate for us against Idaho State, even her outs were hit hard!" said head coach Dan Powers. "I am happy she is finishing her career on such a high note as we get into league play. She has a ton of power for only being 5-4!"

Hernandez was integral in SeattleU kicking off their PCSC inagural weekend with back-to-back victories over Idaho State on Apr. 10. In their conference opening matchup, she was 2-for-2, with both hits being long balls, including a grand slam. She tallied seven RBIs to tie a career high she set in 2007. Behind the blazing bat of the California native, SU defeated ISU 13-3. In the second game of the doubleheader, she was walked and had a run, to keep SeattleU undefeated on the day with a comeback 11-9 victory.

The following day, the veteran went 2-for-4, hitting her third home run of the four game series. She posted two RBIs, two runs and a walk in the game. In the final game of the weekend, she had two hits and a run.

On the weekend she tallied five hits, nine RBIs, six runs, three home runs and three walks. This season, she has 12 hits, 14 RBIs, 10 runs, seven walks, five home runs and a double.

She is the third SU player to earn conference accolades this season. Katie Antich (Spokane, Wash.) was named Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 17, and Kelsey Reynolds (Kent, Wash.) was named Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 6.

Hernandez and the Redhawks will continue PCSC play this weekend in Orem, Utah. SeattleU will take on Weber State in a four game series from April 16 to 17. Game times are 1 p.m. PT and 11 a.m. PT, respectively.
