McCleary was SeattleU's top golfer throughout the tournament, posting rounds of 81 and 78 Monday followed by her even-par third round to finish in a tie for 32nd place with a cumulative score of 231 (+15). Only four of the 126 golfers entered in the tournament shot a lower score in the final round than the 72 shot by McCleary.
Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) finished in a tie for 75th place with rounds of 83, 78, and 82 for a three-round total of 243 (+27), while Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) posted an 86 in the first round and then matched Cook in the final two rounds with scores of 78 and 82 for a two-day total of 246 (+30), good enough for a tie for 89th place.
After rounds of 83 and 89 on the first day, Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) improved in the third round with a 78 for a cumulative total of 250 (+34), and Michelle Grome (Edmonds, Wash.) also lowered her score, posting rounds of 98, 88, and 85 to finish at 271 (+55).
As a team, Seattle University posted scores of 333, 322, and 314 for a final total of 969 (+ 105), tied with Southern Utah and ahead of Weber State, Eastern Washington, Portland, and Idaho State. UTEP won the team title in convincing fashion, finishing 16 strokes ahead of Colorado State and Northern Arizona, while Stephanie Kim of Northern Arizona earned the individual title with an even-par 216, two strokes ahead of Britney Yada of Portland State.
All five golfers who competed for Seattle University this week are eligible to return for the 2010-11 academic year, giving the Redhawks an experienced squad as they continue the transition to full Division I status.
