The Seattle University women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Saturday morning when Montana pulled out a 4-3 victory at Eastern Washington, followed by a 6-1 loss to Gonzaga in the evening.

Whitney Cheng (Seattle, Wash.) was the star of the day for Seattle University, winning both singles matches as well as the doubles set against Montana. After teaming with Audree Jenks (Albuquerque, N.M.) to defeat Rebecca Bran and Heather Davidson, 8-3, Cheng defeated Kayla Moyse at number four singles in straight sets (7-6, 6-3). The senior went on to earn SeattleU's only point against Gonzaga with a come-from-behind victory over Clare Dodge (3-6, 7-5, 6-2).

Montana (8-10) was able to earn the important doubles point thanks to victories in the number two and number three slots. Despite victories by Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) over Rebecca Bran in straight sets (6-2, 7-5) and by Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) over Lauren Gibson in a super-tiebreaker (6-2, 2-6, 10-8), the Grizzlies were able to split the singles matches to pick up the team victory.

Gonzaga (12-4) earned its third 6-1 victory over SeattleU this season thanks to a sweep of the doubles sets and victories in five of the six singles contests. Jenks came close to a victory of her own against Danielle Farmer, taking the match to a third set before falling (6-4, 4-6, 6-4). Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) took Prue Teitzel to a second-set tiebreaker, but Teitzel pulled out a 9-7 victory in the tiebreaker for the straight set victory (6-2, 7-6).

Seattle University (7-9) will head back to Cheney, Wash., for a match against Eastern Washington University Easter Sunday, April 4, beginning at 10 a.m. This will be the final dual match of the season for the women's tennis team before the National Independent Tournament in Farmville, Va., April 15-18.
