With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Shaun Kort walked, and a bad throw by Eric Yardley (Richland, Wash.) allowed Kort to reach third base and Brock Stassi to advance to second base. Ronnie Mitchell was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Nick Melino ended the game with a walk-off single down the right field line that scored Kort.
Stassi put Nevada on the board in the first inning with a two-run double down the left field line. SeattleU responded in the second inning, starting when Steve Kirbach (Kirkland, Wash.) reached on an error by Joe Kohan. Phil Parrish (Great Falls, Mont.) walked, and Bryndon Ecklund (Montesano, Wash.), making his first start of the season, singled through the left side to load the bases. Skip Spencer (Springfield, Ore.) would draw a walk to force in Kirbach, and Parrish would score to tie the game at 2-2 when Jeremy Cole was called for a balk.
Doug Buser (Orinda, Calif.) put the Redhawks ahead 4-2 with a double down the left-field line that scored Spencer and Ecklund. SeattleU starter Brandon Kizer (Marysville, Wash.) walked the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the second, but he was able to pitch out of the jam with no runs scoring thanks to a lineout and a strikeout.
Nevada (15-11) took advantage of a SeattleU mistake in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Kohan reached on an error by Ecklund. After a fly out, Kevin Rodland hit his third home run of the series, a two-run shot to left-center field, to tie the game at 4-4. Rodland would be the last batter Kizer would face after 5 1/3 innings with seven hits, five walks, and four runs, three of them earned, while striking out two batters.
The Redhawks had a chance to retake the lead in the top of the seventh inning, as a Buser single and walks drawn by Nate Roberts (Silverdale, Wash.) and Alex Kuniyoshi (Shoreline, Wash.) loaded the bases with nobody out. Tyler Graham came on in relief and picked up a strikeout and two groundouts to hold SeattleU scoreless in the inning. Graham pitched three perfect innings with two strikeouts and ended up with the victory.
Max Whieldon (Trabuco Hills, Calif.) also pitched three great innings of relief, but was saddled with the loss after giving up the run in the ninth inning. Buser and Ecklund earned two hits each, but Spencer was the only other Redhawk to earn a hit as SeattleU was held to five hits in the game. For Nevada, Melino went 3-for-5, while Stassi and Kohan finished with two hits each.
