The Seattle University softball team struggled in its first game at the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational, as the host Rainbow Wahine picked up a 9-1 win Friday night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawai'i (10-6) jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning, drawing back-to-back walks before Amanda Tauali'i drove both runners in with a double to right-center field. Tauali'i would score on the first of SeattleU's four errors during the game. Kanani Pu'u-Warren led off the second inning with a home run to left field to increase the Hawai'i lead to 4-0.

The home team broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Melissa Gonzalez followed two singles with a three-run home run to left field. Makani Duhaylonsod drove in another run with a double and scored on a double by Jenna Rodriguez to make the score 9-0.

After leaving the bases loaded without scoring a run in the fourth inning, Seattle University finally broke through in the fifth when Katie Antich (Spokane, Wash.) led off with a single and scored on a double by Jessica Amador (Whittier, Calif.). However, the Redhawks could not score another run, ending the game due to the eight-run advantage rule.

Kelsey Reynolds (Kent, Wash.) started the game and took the loss for SeattleU, giving up eight hits, two walks, and eight runs while striking out four batters in 3 1/3 innings. Hannah Klein (Camarillo, Calif.) pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing two hits and one run. Stephanie Ricketts picked up the victory for Hawai'i, striking out 10 Redhawk batters in five innings while giving up only four hits, a walk, and a run.

Seattle University (1-9) continues play in the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational Saturday, March 6, first facing East Carolina at 12 p.m. local time, followed by a contest against #1 Washington at 2 p.m.
