Portland State (6-6) picked up the important doubles point thanks to victories in the number one and number two doubles slots. All three doubles sets were close, with Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) and Adam Strizich (Helena, Mont.) picking up the Redhawks' lone victory over Matt Erickson and Jeff Cero, 8-5.
Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.) picked up one of the points for SeattleU, recovering from a first-set loss for a three-set victory over Kyle Erickson (4-6, 6-2, 6-4). Yusuke Kanehira (Setagaya, Japan) also earned a victory in straight sets over Cero (6-3, 7-5).
In the number five position, Andrew Tran (Portland, Ore.) was able to win the second set after losing the first one, but eventually fell to Matt Erickson in the third-set super-tiebreaker (6-4, 3-6, 10-3). Portland State also earned straight-set victories in three of the first four singles positions to clinch the match.
Seattle University (3-6) stays in Portland for two matches Saturday, March 6, first facing the University of Portland at 1 p.m., followed by a neutral-site contest against Weber State at 5 p.m.
