Seattle University earned the doubles point thanks to victories in the number two and number three doubles positions. Whitney Cheng (Seattle, Wash.) and Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) defeated Tara Vadali and Kylea Gleason, 8-4, while Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) teamed with Mikaela Peterson (Spokane, Wash.) to post the same score over Martha Pellicano and Emily McClaran.
Cheng's singles match went three sets after Pellicano recovered from losing the first set, 6-1, to win a second-set tiebreaker, 8-6. The senior was able to take control in the third set to earn the victory (6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1). Schwab also earned her second singles victory of the weekend with a straight-set win over Caitlin Stocking (6-3, 6-2).
For the second straight day, Sugimoto cruised to victory in her singles match, a straight-set win over Gleason (6-0, 6-1), while Gina Bloemers did not lose a game in defeating McClaran (6-0, 6-0). Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) posted a straight-set victory over Anya Dalkin in the number two singles position (6-4, 6-2), as did Steffanie Mortera (Portland, Ore.) over Vadali in the number four singles slot (6-3, 6-0).
Seattle University (4-6) will head to Tri Cities, Wash., for two rematches next Saturday, Feb. 27, as the Redhawks will face Idaho, a 5-1 winner on Feb. 12, at 1 p.m., followed by another contest against Portland State at 4 p.m.
