The Washington State baseball team took the early lead on Seattle University and kept adding runs to the scoreboard, cruising to a 23-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Bailey-Brayton Field.

The lone bright spot for Seattle University was the play of Nate Roberts (Silverdale, Wash.), who finished 3-for-4 at the plate including a double. Bryndon Ecklund (Montesano, Wash.) also earned a double during the game, while Doug Buser (Orinda, Calif.), Josh Kalalau (University Place, Wash.), and Cullen Hendrickson (Auburn, Wash.) each picked up a single.

For Washington State (2-0), Derek Jones and Cody Bartlett each went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, with Jones also driving in three runs. Jones was replaced by Patrick Claussen, who proceeded to go 2-for-2 with a run scored and four runs batted in. Matt Fanelli went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted in, and Ryan Peterson batted 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

David Stilley earned the victory for Washington State, allowing four hits and two walks in four innings of work in a controlled start. Conor Spink (Eagle River, Alaska) picked up the loss, giving up six hits and six runs, four of them earned, in two innings on the mound.
