Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) earned the double-bagel victory over Kayla Carroll in the number five singles position (6-0, 6-0), while freshman Gina Bloemers (Tacoma, Wash.) continued to show that she belonged in the SeattleU lineup with a straight-set victory over Katrina Sauer in the number six position (6-1, 6-4). Sugimoto and Bloemers combined to defeat Carroll and Sauer in the number three doubles slot, 8-2.
Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) led the way in the number one singles position with a victory over Allison Bostrom, and Whitney Cheng (Seattle, Wash.) picked up a straight-set victory over Liz Kiger in the number three singles match. As the number two doubles team, Schwab and Cheng shut out Kiger and Emma Wilson, 8-0.
Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) continued the momentum in the number two singles position, defeating Addie Morrow in straight sets (6-0, 6-2), while Steffanie Mortera (Portland, Ore.) dropped only one game in a straight-set win over Wilson (6-0, 6-1). Ohno and Mortera were pushed in the number one doubles match by Bostrom and Morrow, but eventually pulled out an 8-4 victory.
Seattle University (3-6) stays in Portland overnight before facing Portland State Sunday, Feb. 21, at 9 a.m.
