The Seattle University softball team remains on the road for a four game series with the University of New Mexico. The Redhawks (0-5) will square off with the Lobos (2-2) in a pair of weekend doubleheaders, beginning on Saturday, Feb. 20. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. PT on Saturday and at 10 a.m. PT on Sunday, Feb. 21.

"We are looking for improvement with out bats when runners are in scoring position," said head coach Dan Powers. "We left too many runners on base last weekend. We are also looking forward to starting out fresh and shaking off the rust from last weekend. Three of our games were one-run losses that could have been victories with a clutch hit here and there, or making a play instead of an untimely error."

"We are not far away from being a good DI team, but we have to limit our mistakes and take advantage of the opportunities in front of us. Our season is a marathon that lasts through May, so one bad week in February will not set us back," concluded Powers.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks had a tough opening weekend of play last week at the Red Desert Classic. SU went 0-5 at the weekend tournament in Saint George, Utah, falling by one-run in three of their games. SU fell 8-7 to new conference rival Northern Colorado and 3-2 to Brigham Young on Feb. 12. They were unable to bounce back the following day, suffering a 7-3 loss to San Jose State and a 9-1 decision to Utah. On the final day of action, SeattleU took an early lead, but could not hold on as they fell 4-3 to Utah State.

On the weekend, junior Jessica Amador led the squad with five hits, two runs, two RBIs, a home run and a double.

On Deck: Following their weekend in Albuquerque, N.M., SU will head to Honolulu, Hawai'i to participate the Bank of Hawai'i Tournament hosted by the University of Hawai'i. The tournament will run from Friday, Mar. 5 through Sunday, Mar. 7. The Redhawks will take on Hawai'i, East Carolina, Washington and two additional opponents yet to be determined.

Scouting University of New Mexico: The Lobos of the University of New Mexico (2-2) host SeattleU after opening their season at the Texas State Tournament in San Marcos, Texas. UNM split results during the four game tournament, seeing wins over Texas State, 8-0, on Feb. 13, and a 7-2 victory over Northern Illinois on Feb. 14.

Leading New Mexico on the season is Cristin Anderson, who is currently sporting a .500 batting average. In four starts, she tallied seven hits, three runs, a home run and a double. On the mound, Karie Gutierrez earned both victories for the Lobos. She holds a 0.77 ERA, one complete game, a shutout and four strikeouts.

Amador Has Strong Opening Weekend: Junior catcher Jessica Amador headlined the Redhawk offense at the Red Desert Classic from Feb. 12 to 14. She currently is the team's offensive leader with a .417 batting average, after tallying five hits, two runs, two RBIs, a home run and a double. She currently is sporting a .750 slugging percentage and a .563 on base percentage.

Freshman Hits First Career Long Ball: Freshman Jessica Ulrich hit her first career home run in the second game of her collegiate career. In the seventh inning she slammed her long ball over the center field wall in SU's attempt at a come-from-behind rally versus Brigham Young on Feb. 12.iHHHH
