In the number one singles position, Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) defeated Ashley Coats (6-2, 6-2), while number two player Whitney Cheng (Seattle, Wash.) earned a straight-set victory over Cora Wigen (6-1, 6-0). Freshman Steffanie Mortera (Portland, Ore.) earned the number three position and defeated Ali Burnside (6-1, 6-0), and Nicole Fleckenstein (Seattle, Wash.) won the number four singles match over Heidi Weston (6-2, 6-1). In the number five singles slot, Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) was victorious over Kristina Aarsvold (6-2, 6-0), and Gina Bloemers (Tacoma, Wash.) picked up a straight-set victory over Caitlyn Hoerr in the number six position (6-1, 6-0).
Seattle University started the afternoon by sweeping the doubles sets, as Mortera and Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) defeated Coats and Wigen in the number one position, 8-0, while Cheng and Schwab combined to earn an 8-1 victory over Aarsvold and Deanna Ellmer in the number two slot, and Fleckenstein joined with Mikaela Peterson (Spokane, Wash.) for an 8-3 win over Burnside and Hoerr in the number three doubles position.
Seattle University (2-2) heads to the eastern part of Washington next weekend with scheduled matches against Washington State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, and Idaho. The Redhawks will not have another home match until Saturday, March 27, against Pacific University (Ore.) at the SeattleU Tennis Courts.
