Sophomore Mark Shkretbtan (Redmond, Wash.) picked up the victory in the number one singles position, defeating Conor Feeney in the third set super-tiebreaker (7-5, 2-6, 10-6). The Bulldogs started their comeback as Levin Guillermo defeated Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) in the number two position in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) and Roman Dojcak took the number three singles match over Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.), also in straight sets (6-0, 6-3).
Gonzaga (1-1) continued towards the victory when Kevin Eischen earned a victory over Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) in the number four position. The Bulldogs clinched the match thanks to Scott Sullivan, who defeated Adam Strizich (Helena, Mont.) in straight sets (6-0, 6-2). Jake Davis also picked up a victory for Gonzaga, defeating Andrew Tran in the number six position (7-6 (8-6), 6-4).
The Bulldogs took the doubles point, as Feeney and Eischen defeated Shkretbtan and Meske, 8-6, and Sullivan and Dojcak earned an 8-2 victory over Boorkman and Strizich. With the point already clinched, the third doubles match was not played.
Seattle University (0-1) returns to the Sammamish Club next Thursday, Jan. 21, to host UC Irvine beginning at 6 p.m. It will be the second of three home matches scheduled for the Redhawk men's tennis team during the 2010 dual meet season, with the home finale coming on March 19 against Pacific Lutheran.
