Seattle University junior Charles Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) has quickly emerged as a force on the basketball court, as he is currently second in Division I in scoring average with 26.5 points per game.

Garcia recently received recognition from one of the nation's leading college basketball blogs, as he was named Baller of the Week by The Mid-Majority, a website that covers the 24 smaller Division I conferences and the Division I independent schools, including Seattle University. The power forward earned this honor after averaging 30 points a game last week in victories over Utah and Presbyterian and a one-point loss to Wofford in which he scored 41 points.

After scoring 26 points and pulling down 16 rebounds in Thursday night's game at Cal Poly, Garcia is behind only Aubrey Coleman of Houston, who is averaging 26.6 points per game. He is also tied for 28th in rebounding with 10.3 rebounds per game, helped by four games in which Garcia pulled down at least 10 rebounds.

He earned All-Tournament recognition at the HoopTV Las Vegas Invitational last weekend, notching 25 points and eight rebounds in SeattleU's 67-63 victory over Presbyterian on Friday. The next day, Garcia scored 25 points in the final 13:30 of the game to help the Redhawks erase a 17-point second half deficit before Wofford hit two free throws in the final seconds to pull out an 84-83 victory.

Seattle University (4-4) is preparing for Saturday's contest against UC Davis. The 1 p.m. tip-off will be broadcast on 710 ESPN Seattle with Dave Grosby and Gary Hill, Jr., describing the action from courtside.
