Seattle University head baseball coach Donny Harrel has announced that three student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent during the recent early signing period to come to the university and join the SeattleU baseball program beginning in the 2010-11 academic year.

Cory Mack (Spokane, Wash.) is a 5'8", 160-lb., left-handed pitcher who is a two-sport athlete at Central Valley High School, earning letters in both baseball and football. He is a three-time member of the BBNW Eastern Washington Select Scout Team and earned all-tournament honors at the 2007 BBNW Pacific Northwest Championships.

"Cory brings a bulldog mentality to our pitching staff," Harrel said. "He pitches with fire and always seeks perfection. Cory has good life in his fastball and a tremendous feel for his secondary pitches. Cory has a chance to compete right away at this level due to his makeup and self-confidence."

Trent Oleszczuk (Beaverton, Ore.) is currently a shortstop for Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore. At 5'10", 170 pounds, he batted .289 last season with a .454 on-base percentage, 22 stolen bases, and 41 runs scored. He earned second team All-NWAACC honors for his performance during his freshman season.

"Trent loves to compete and will push our younger players to become better on and off the field. He has a relentless attitude and always leaves the field with a dirty uniform. Trent handles the bat extremely well and has the ability to play both positions up the middle. Trent will make us better the first day he walks on the field," said Harrel.

Jace Sloan (Puyallup, Wash.), a 6'0", 200-lb., first baseman, was a two-time first team all-league honoree at Puyallup High School before earning second team All-NWAACC honors last season at Everett Community College. A .400 hitter his last two high school seasons, he hit .328 with 17 doubles, three home runs, and 46 runs batted in during his freshman year at Everett CC.

"Jace is a throwback-type player. He understands the entire game and has a lot of baseball savvy. Jace has shown to be a clutch hitter and rarely leaves guys on base when he comes to the plate. His ability to control the strike zone puts him in hitters' counts. Jace also is a tremendous defender and will be a leader through his work ethic," Harrel said.

These three will join a packed roster of players who will have a full year of experience as Seattle University continues the transition to full Division I status. Harrel plans to add to the recruiting class during the spring signing period in April.

The Seattle University baseball team returns to competition for the first time in about 25 years with a series at Washington State Feb. 20-21. The first home game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23, against Saint Martin's at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue starting at 4 p.m.
