Seattle University head volleyball coach Shannon Ellis recently announced that three high school seniors signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to attend the university and join the SeattleU volleyball program beginning in the 2010-11 academic year.

"We are so happy to welcome these women to our program next fall," Ellis said. "All three of them are strong students and great volleyball players. Practices are going to be very competitive. It's exciting to think about what the future holds for Seattle University volleyball."

Jacquie Brice (Fullerton, Calif.) is a three-time all-league setter at Troy High School. She led her team to two CIF semifinal appearances, in 2008 and 2009. A competitive beach volleyball player, she was selected for the Southern California Region High Performance team and participated in the 2008 Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia. She is currently playing for Goldenwest Volleyball Club.

"Jacquie is a gifted athlete with wonderful competitive spirit. I am confident she will make a huge contribution and lead our team to new heights," said Ellis.

Sarah Jaeckel (Littleton, Colo.) is a two-time all-league outside hitter at Heritage High School. She also plays for Front Range Volleyball Club. She will join her sisters as Division I volleyball players, as Lauren just completed her senior season at Saint Mary's College and Kristy is a sophomore for the University of Florida team that has advanced to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

"Sarah is a true all-around player. She has terrific court sense and she will add significantly to our defense right away," Ellis said.

Karli Pedone (Granite Bay, Calif.) is a three-time all-league outside hitter for Granite Bay High School. She has led the high school team to the CIF playoffs and also participates in the Force Volleyball Club. A letterwinner in soccer and track, Pedone helped set the school record in the 4x400 meter relay.

"Karli is a great fit for Seattle University athletically, academically, and in her commitment to social justice," Ellis said. "She will be a strong force on the net for us in the coming years."

The Seattle University volleyball team loses only one player to graduation and expects to have a veteran squad back, along with these three newcomers, for the 2010 season.
