In anticipation of the court dedication ceremony to take place Thursday, Nov. 19, at KeyArena at Seattle Center, the city of Seattle has announced that November 19, 2009, will be declared Elgin Baylor Day.

Mayor Greg Nickels issued the proclamation, calling Baylor "SU's all-time greatest basketball player" and saying that he "has gone on as a pioneer of the game, becoming the first to 'play above the rim.'"

"We are pleased that the city of Seattle has joined with us in honoring Elgin Baylor," Bill Hogan, Director of Athletics, said. "His name will always be synonymous with the outstanding tradition of Seattle University basketball and we look forward to celebrating his remarkable career throughout the day, culminating with the events surrounding the Elgin Baylor Classic."

Baylor is scheduled to be in attendance for the dedication of Elgin Baylor Court, to take place before tip-off of the home opener for the Seattle University men's basketball team as it takes on Fresno State. 710 ESPN Seattle and FSN Northwest both plan to broadcast the pregame ceremonies as part of their coverage of Thursday's game.

"I am honored to be recognized in this way by both Seattle University and the city of Seattle. I look forward to seeing my former teammates as well as other friends Thursday night at KeyArena," said Baylor.

At halftime of Thursday's game, Baylor will join many other legends as the top 29 men's basketball players in Seattle University history, as voted on by the SeattleU Hall of Fame Committee, are recognized.

Tickets are still available for the Elgin Baylor Classic between Seattle University and Fresno State tomorrow night, Nov. 19, at KeyArena at Seattle Center through all Ticketmaster outlets. Tip-off is set for 7:10 p.m.
