The Pepperdine University offense stymied the Seattle University women's soccer team to earn a 1-0 shutout Thursday afternoon in Malibu, Calif. The Redhawks were on the defense for most of the match and with the loss, SU falls to 7-10-1 on the season, while the Waves improve to 9-7-1.

SeattleU only managed to get off four shots to PU's 14 in the contest. With the ambush of Pepperdine offenders, Redhawk goalkeeper Madison Goverde defended the SU goal brilliantly in the first half. The Waves pounced on the ball immediately, but the Seattle sophomore was composed and tallied five saves in the first period alone. She also had a save in the second half to bring her total to six on the day.

After 62 scoreless minutes, the Redhawk defense broke down and Pepperdine was able to capitalize and score the game-winner off a Sophia Medina chip over Goverde's head.

Despite futile attempts to work the ball into the Wave half, SeattleU was unable to get more than one shot on goal.

SeattleU will return to the pitch for their final contest in 2009. The Redhawks will square off with the University of San Diego on Sunday, Nov. 1, in a 1 p.m. match in San Diego, Calif.
