Derek Rogalsky (Richland, Wash.), a senior defender on the Seattle University men's soccer team, was voted First Team Academic All-District VIII, University Division, while defender Kate Edstrom (Portland, Ore.), a senior on the women's soccer team, placed on the University Division Academic All-District VIII Third Team, the third consecutive year she has earned Academic All-District honors.

Rogalsky has started ten matches this season, appearing in 11 contests overall. He contributed to the team's 1-0 overtime win over Oregon State on Sept. 19, SeattleU's first victory in any sport over a Pac-10 team since the start of the Division I reclassification process. Rogalsky started the final seven matches of the 2008 season, helping the Redhawks win six of those seven matches, including two by shutout.

In the classroom, Rogalsky is majoring in biochemistry and currently has a 3.862 grade point average. This weekend, he will head to Gonzaga University to give a presentation on creating new anticancer agents from existing drugs to the Murdock College Science Research Program Fall Conference. Rogalsky will hustle back across the state after his presentation Saturday afternoon and hopes to be back in time for SeattleU's match against Air Force Sunday.

Edstrom has started every match of her collegiate career, accumulating one goal and seven assists for nine total points. The senior has been part of 35 shutouts over the past four seasons, including tying the school record with 13 shutouts during the 2007 campaign, when SeattleU hosted first- and second-round matches in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament.

Edstrom has earned a 3.87 grade point average while majoring in nursing. In 2008 she was named ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-America, College Division, and was First Team Academic All-District VIII, College Division, in both 2007 and 2008. In 2007, Edstrom earned NSCAA Second Team All-Region honors as well as Academic All-GNAC recognition. Edstrom's final collegiate soccer match will be Sunday, Nov. 1, at San Diego beginning at 1 p.m.

Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America program are conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Rogalsky is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which are scheduled to be announced Nov. 18.
