The Seattle University men's tennis team encountered some of the top competition from the Northwest as it participated in the Gonzaga/Eastern Washington Men's Tennis Fall Tournament over the weekend at the EWU Tennis Courts.

Mark Shkretbtan earned victories in both singles and doubles. He defeated Tarun Kishan of Eastern Washington in Friday singles (7-6, 6-2) before dropping a close match to Mike Facey of Montana (7-5, 6-4). In doubles, he teamed with newcomer Simon Meske and defeated Chris Shallman and Oliver Sindayigaya of Lewis-Clark State College, 8-6. The twosome took Roman Dojcak and Scott Sullivan of Gonzaga to a tiebreaker before falling, 9-8 (7-5).

Meske also posted a singles victory on Friday, defeating Jake Knox of Idaho (6-4, 6-7, 10-6) before losing to Levin Guillermo of Gonzaga (6-2, 6-2). SeattleU's other doubles victory of the weekend came courtesy of Alex Montgomery and Jordan Prince, who defeated Zhia Hwa Chong and Jeff Lowndes of Lewis-Clark State College, 8-3, before losing to Nico Riego De Dios and Stefan Simikic of Eastern Washington, 8-5.

Patrick Boorkman, Zachary Williams, Adam Strizich, and Andrew Tran also competed for Seattle University over the weekend. Tran took both of his opponents to three sets, dropping close matches to Chong (7-6, 1-6, 10-7) and Vetu Mam of Portland State (6-4, 3-6, 10-8). Strzich also went to a deciding third set in his match against David Cysneiros of Montana before losing (6-1, 5-7, 10-6).

The Seattle University men's tennis team is scheduled to open the winter/spring dual meet season by hosting Gonzaga on Friday, Jan. 15.
