The Seattle University men's soccer team earned several scoring chances in the second half, but a goal early in the second half held up for Simon Fraser as the visiting team collected a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Championship Field.

After a quiet first half, Simon Fraser jumped on the board 2:13 into the second half, as Alex Hanne corralled the ball and started an attack towards the SeattleU net. Hanne dribbled the ball until Josh Bennett joined the action. Hanne sent a crossing pass into the box, and Bennett's header found the back of the net.

Seattle University quickly intensified its offensive attack, earning several shots in the next 15 minutes. Off a SeattleU corner kick, a header by Derek Rogalsky (Richland, Wash.) sailed just wide, followed by a shot by Kyle Peterman (Boise, Idaho) that was stopped by Clan goalie Hide Ozawa. The Redhawks' best chance came in the 59th minute, as Rogalsky blasted a shot that seemed destined for the upper left corner of the net, but Ozawa leapt at the last second and swatted the ball away to prevent the tying goal.

Simon Fraser (10-2) retook control of the match, moving the ball into its offensive zone and taking several shots at SeattleU goalie Ivan Dizdar (Phoenix, Ariz.), but the junior college transfer was up to the task, making three saves in a 14-minute span. Another corner kick by Peterman led to a header by Sean Morris (Bothell, Wash.), but Ozawa again made the save to keep the home team off the board.

Seattle University had one final chance late in the match by drawing a corner kick with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. Morris sent the ball into the box, where it found Kevin Cook (Gresham, Ore.), but Cook's shot went wide, and the Redhawks would not get another chance to tie the contest.

Ozawa finished with five saves in earning his fourth shutout of the season, while Dizdar, making his second start of the season, also was credited with five saves during the match. Each team took 13 total shots, and Seattle University held a slight edge in corner kicks, taking six in the second half while Simon Fraser had four corner kicks during the afternoon.

Seattle University (1-7-1) has two weeks to prepare for its first conference match in almost two years, as the Redhawks will travel to face New Mexico Friday, Oct. 16, and UNLV Sunday, Oct. 18. The next home match for SeattleU is Friday, Oct. 23, against Sacramento State beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Championship Field.
