The Seattle University women's tennis team received some strong performances as it concluded the fall competitive season at the Gonzaga/Eastern Washington Fall Tournament over the weekend at the EWU Tennis Courts.

Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) earned five singles victories over the weekend, beginning with a win over Erin Troedson of Washington State (6-4, 6-4) on Friday. Saturday, the sophomore defeated Lucy Fairbotham of Montana State (6-1, 7-6) and Alix Silha of Eastern Washington (6-4, 4-6, 1-0). After receiving a walkover earlier on Sunday, Sugimoto finished off the weekend with a win over Rocio Norena of Eastern Washington (6-2, 6-3).

Steffanie Mortera (Portland, Ore.) picked up two victories in the main draw, defeating Marta Tosic of Eastern Washington (7-5, 6-4) and Nayantara Vadali of Portland State (6-4, 6-3) before losing to eventual flight champion Jackie Owens of Washington State. Mortera completed her play in the tournament with a win over Ryann Warner of Eastern Washington (3-6, 6-4, 1-0).

Three other SeattleU players picked up one singles victory during the classic. Mikaela Peterson (Spokane, Wash.) defeated Jessi Steele of Eastern Washington (3-6, 6-4, 6-2), Audree Jenks (Albuquerque, N.M.) defeated Andrea de la Torre of Montana State (retired), and Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) was victorious over Natalie Kirch of Idaho (6-2, 6-1).

In doubles play, Schwab and Jenks defeated Clare Dodge and Kristina Zauere of Gonzaga, 8-3, and Anya Dalkin and Caitlin Stocking of Portland State, 8-3. Peterson and Sugimoto earned wins over Norena and Steele of Eastern Washington, 8-2, and Fairbotham of Montana State and Kylea Gibson of Portland State, 8-2. Mortera teamed with Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) and posted a victory over Jen Coll and de la Torre of Montana State, 8-3.

While the women will not compete again until January, the Seattle University men's tennis team will participate in the Eastern Washington/Gonzaga Classic next weekend.
