After taking an early 1-0 lead, the Seattle University women's soccer team could not hold on to earn their fifth victory of the season. The Redhawks fell 2-1 to Gonzaga University Thursday afternoon in Spokane.

Junior Kara Kuttler scored her fourth goal of the season and SU's first goal in three games. Kuttler, who had four shots in the game, got the ball on a GU turnover and shot it in from 18 yards out past the diving Bulldog goalkeeper.

Goalkeeper Madison Goverde had a very busy day between the pipes. She tallied nine saves in the game, including six in the first half. Seattle was able to control the score for a majority of the game, despite Gonzaga (4-3) outshooting them 17-11 in the game and having 11 shots on goal to SU's five.

SU (4-5) managed their one-goal lead until the 71st minute when GU's Kelsey Were knocked in the tying goal. The tides continued to turn for the Redhawks as the Bulldog offense built up their momentum. With less than five minutes left in the game, Gonzaga pulled out the come-from-behind win with a Sarah Rhodes goal.

"We did not have a great second half," said head coach Julie Woodward. "We gave up two goals off of mistakes and need to be able to play 90 minutes. Kara looked dangerous offensively and scored a great goal."

Seattle will look to get back into their winning ways at home this Sunday, Sept. 20, when they host Utah State. The Redhawks are currently undefeated at home with three straight shutouts at Championship Field in 2009. The match versus the Aggies is slated for 1 p.m.
