The Seattle University women's soccer team was edged 1-0 by Oregon State in their opening game at the Oregon Nike Tournament in Eugene, Ore. Friday afternoon. The Redhawks were unable to rebound after giving up a first half goal and dropped their second straight game. SU falls to 4-3 on the season, while OSU improves to 4-1.

"We played a solid team in Oregon State," said head coach Julie Woodward. "We didn't come out ready to play. Overall we had a better second half, and Kara (Kuttler) and Brynn (Watanabe) both had some good opportunities to score for us."

Oregon State took a 1-0 lead at the 24 minute mark when Ashley Seal beat goalkeeper Madison Goverde on a rebound and put it into the back of the net. Seal's goal midway through the first half proved the game-winner, as the Redhawks were unable to equalize the score. The Beaver's are the only team to shutout SU this season.

Goverde had busy day between the pipes, as she posted nine saves in the game. The Beavers out shot the Redhawks 17-6, and landed 10 shots on goal to SU's four. Despite not getting many offensive opportunities, Kuttler had another strong game. She led the team with three shots, two of which were on goal. Coming off the bench, Watanabe moved the ball around and had a solid shot in the second half that went just above the crossbar. Also tacking on shots were Taylor Bolibol and M'ily Reiter, both were saved by the OSU 'keeper.

Seattle will look to snap their two-game slump against tournament host Oregon on Sunday, Sept. 13. The match is slated for 1 p.m. at Pape' Field on the UO campus.
