Seattle University head women's basketball coach Joan Bonvicini announced the 2009-10 schedule Tuesday. SU is slated to play in 31 contests, including 14 home games.
"We are excited about the upcoming year," said Bonvicini, who's entering her first season at the helm of the SU women's basketball program. "There are many challenges ahead of us, but we are determined and focused on having a successful year. We are committed to building a championship program."
The Redhawks kick off the 2009-10 campaign at home with UC Davis on Friday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. The following evening they will host Concordia (Ore.) at 7 p.m., before hitting the road for their first road trip.
Their first stop is West Lafayette, Ind., where they will participate in the Basketball Traveler's Tournament at Purdue. SU will open up play with tournament host Purdue on Friday, Nov. 20, at 5:30 p.m. The following day the Redhawks will square off with Georgetown at 8 p.m. SeattleU will close out the weekend with Dayton on Sunday, Nov. 22.
After their first road weekend SU returns to Seattle to host four games, beginning with Sacramento State on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m. From Friday, Nov. 27, through Sunday, Nov. 29, the Redhawks will host the SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament. Participating in the weekend tournament are South Alabama, UW-Milwaukee and William and Mary. SU will kick off action versus William and Mary on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m., and close out the tournament on Sunday versus UW-Milwaukee at 1 p.m. They will close out their four-game home stand on Tuesday, Dec. 1, versus Pacific Lutheran at 7 p.m.
They will hit the road for the second time for a lone contest in Southern California. The Redhawks will take on the Anteaters of UC Irvine on Saturday, Dec. 5, before returning home.
On Wednesday, Dec. 9, SU will host cross-town rival the University of Washington at 7 p.m. The following week SeattleU will welcome Saint Mary's (Calif.) at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14. Evergreen State will travel to Seattle for a game on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
SeattleU will take on their second Pacific-10 team on Friday, Dec. 18. The Redhawks will travel to Corvallis, Ore. to face off with Oregon State, before heading to Boise, Idaho on Monday, Dec. 21, to play the Broncos of Boise State.
After Christmas, SU will head to the Golden State for a second time. They will travel to San Luis Obispo to play the Mustangs of Cal Poly on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m., and on Wednesday, Dec. 30, SeattleU will take on Loyola Marymount at 5 p.m. in Los Angeles.
They will open up 2010 at home with a lone contest versus the University of Portland on Sunday, Jan. 3. The game versus the Pilots is slated for 2 p.m. Following the solo home game, they will travel to Grand Forks, N.D. on Friday, Jan. 8, to take on the Fighting Sioux of North Dakota at 5 p.m. Two days later they will head to Vermillion, S.D. to square off with the University of South Dakota at 1 p.m. The Redhawks will close out the road trip in Bakersfield, Calif. with a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 16, against the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners.
After three games away from home, SeattleU returns home to host Longwood University on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 5:30 p.m. A week later SU will travel to Fullerton, Calif. to play Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. After playing CS Fullerton, they will head to Eastern Washington on Wednesday, Feb. 3, for a 7 p.m. contest.
Three days after playing the Eagles of EWU, they will see South Dakota for the second time this season. This time the Coyotes will travel to Seattle for a game on Saturday, Feb. 6.
On Wednesday, Feb. 10, SeattleU will make their fifth trip to California to play the Cal State Northridge Matadors.
The Redhawks will close out the home-half of the 2009-10 schedule with games versus North Dakota and Cal State Bakersfield. On Tuesday, Feb. 16, they will host North Dakota. SeattleU will host their final home contest and their annual Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 20, versus Cal State Bakersfield. The game versus the 'Runners is slated for 7 p.m.
SeattleU will close out the season at the Longwood Tournament in Farmville, Va. On Saturday, Mar. 6, they will take on UNC-Central, and close out the season on Sunday, Mar. 7, versus Savannah State.
