Cameron Dollar, head men’s basketball coach at Seattle University, has announced that his father Donald Dollar, a long-time successful high school coach in Georgia, will join his staff as an assistant coach, effective immediately.

Donald Dollar is in his 46th season (35 years as head coach) teaching and/or coaching.  His teams have won over 660 games, ranking near the top of the list of Georgia boys high school basketball coaches. He has earned three state championships, 16 regional titles, 11 appearances in the state semifinals, and eight chances at the state title. Over 35 players who played for Dollar have gone on to play at the Division I or Division II level, with four players have played or presently playing professional basketball.

“I am extremely fortunate to have a father who is so accomplished as a coach,” Cameron Dollar said. “I am confident that his years of experience and success will help me and the players reach the level of competition we are capable of.”

After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in 1962, Donald Dollar began his coaching career at J.P. Carr High School, posting a 28-12 record over two seasons. He moved on to Eva Thomas High School, winning two state championships and averaging 24 wins per season from 1964 through 1971.

The majority of Dollar’s success came at Douglass High School, where in 22 seasons he led the boys’ varsity basketball team to 14 state tournaments, 11 regional titles, seven appearances in the state semifinals, five state title games, and the 1984 Georgia state championship.

After stints at Carver High School and Clarkston High School, Dollar became an assistant coach at his alma mater, helping Morehouse College win four conference regular season titles, three appearances in the conference tournament final, and two berths to the NCAA Tournament. For the past two seasons Dollar has served as an assistant coach at the University of West Georgia.

Dollar was one of the top instructors and clinicians at the B/c Basketball Camp held in Georgia, Texas, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. He coached the Georgia AAU All-Stars against the Soviet Union National Team from 1989 to 1991. He was the head coach of the entry in the Boston Shootout and Director of the Big “D” All-Stars Basketball Camp. Dollar was the founder and director of the Metro Atlanta Summer Basketball League and the prestigious Peach State Holiday Basketball Classic.

The men’s basketball program is coming off its best season in 45 years with a 21-8 record, including a 13-8 mark against Division I opponents. As part of Year Two of the reclassification process, the team is scheduled to play a full Division I schedule in 2009-10, which will be announced later this summer.
